Community Service Day at The Greater Chicago Food Depository

Authors:

Hirewell is a proud participant in the 2017 Techweek Gives, a campaign aimed at raising $1 million over a 90-day period. Chicago’s technology community is coming together and give money, time and goods to S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) and other worthy nonprofits. To date, we’ve contributed over $25,000 and nearly 50 volunteer hours.

On June 3, a team of 12 Hirewell volunteers met at the Greater Chicago Food Depository Distribution Center for a morning of work.  There were 100+ total volunteers, and as a group, we unpacked 19,000 pounds of food!  Our group was part of a team that unpacked 4 tons of Pinto beans and split them into individual 3-pound bags.  Based on the work we did, each of us helped prepare 147 meals – 1700+ total by the Hirewell team!

We had a great time, and we are looking forward to our other upcoming community service activities, including additional trips to the GCFD.
