Episode Transcript

Well fun show today. I’m really excited this employee of the week, because I feel like so often it’s like new faces.

This is like the most well known face I feel like. Easily in the company. Oh, I’m sorry, James, but it’s no longer you. Yeah., Sorry James. I hope James is watching this like tonight. I mean, I know he tunes in every Wednesday morning. Every Wednesday morning. You’re knocked off the top spot, James because

we have- he’s shaking his head in the waiting room. I know. I love that. We can see everyone watching the waiting room as we start just teasing their intro. I’m so excited. Should we bring him in? Let’s bring in Joel. Hey Joel. Welcome to the show. Hello. I’m super excited to be here. I feel like I’ve watched tons of these and now I’m a part of it,

so. Now you’re the guest. Yeah, I’ll probably join myself as a cohost as well. For sure. You can definitely join. We’re looking for more cohosts. Come in whenever. I mean, you know how it is trying to get people to go live or to post content or whatever. Sometimes it’s like pulling teeth, but with you it’s just second nature.

It’s true. It’s true. And I’d still say James, me and James, we have a constant battle with it. Like his content’s very good. And then mine’s just kind of like laughs and giggles but- which is still good. That’s needed. I’m so team laughs and giggles. I know. Well, exactly. You know, I just give the people what they want, even if you know, it’s not the deepest content but it’s fun and it works.

Everybody loves a good GIF. I love it. That’s right. And I am just loving, like I am so envious of your setup right now. Like this microphone, the earphones. I am just, I gotta step up my game. He’s got the whole thing going. That’s how I show up to sales calls. I’m just like, Hello! Welcome to the sales call today.”

Speaking of sales calls, we did call you the employee of the week and not the recruiter of the week, which might be a surprise to some because you have been a recruiter at Hirewell. But just recently stepped into a new role. So first part of this segment, who are you and what do you now do at Hirewell?

Well my name is Joel Lalgee and up until two weeks ago, I was a lead recruiter on the HR team. Go HR team! And now I’ve made a transition into, I would call it the sales team, but that’s a little bit confusing. So call it business development and so I get to work with James like pretty much every day, which is awesome.

I think we’ve mentioned James too much though. I know. Let’s not say his name anymore. Yeah. I work with this guy. You might have seen him anyway kinda sarcastic, you know. But yeah. So really the goal of the role is to just business development called business development. Obviously Hirewell has such a great brand.

We do great with clients and so we get a lot of inbound. We get a lot of clients referring us to new clients. But it’s just not enough. No, it probably is but my goal is to continue just to do cold outreach and just get our name out there as much as possible. So super excited. I learned a ton in the first couple weeks, like just really cool spreadsheet stuff that blows my mind.

Okay. We’re really excited to have you on here. We’re excited about your new role. It like couldn’t be more perfect. It just, it makes total sense just with the relationships that you have.

And like you said, we have great relationships. We get great inbound and referrals and all that jazz, but it’s never enough. It’s never enough. So we’re excited. You’re going to do some amazing, amazing things. Have you tuned in before for this rapid fire questions game? Yeah, it honestly, you know, like my hands are starting to sweat even as we go.

Sure. We’ve got this, come on. Yeah, but that’s what we like to do. We put people in a hot seat, we make, ’em scared. We want to make everyone as anxious as possible. Yeah. It should be day one on the job really. It should be. Your first day at Hirewell you’re doing a live show. Welcome to the organization.

Can you imagine if we did that? Like welcome this is your first week- I think it might impact our turnover, a little. So maybe not a good idea. Yeah, retention is great. We don’t want to mess with that. We don’t. Well in case someone’s tuning in for the first time, we are going to play our rapid fire questions game with Joel, two minutes

will go on the clock. Joel, you have those two minutes to answer as many questions as you can. Remember, it is rapid fire. So a quick answer and move it on. That’s it. The last 30 seconds will be our lightning round. It’s an either or. There is no in between. Go with your gut. No explanation. I’m so nervous right now.

You’ve got this. We. Believe in you. Inhale, open mouth exhale. Your time starts in three. Ryan will ask your first question in two and go. Joel what’s your favorite thing about working at Hirewell? The people. Done. What’s your favorite fast food chain? In and out. Very good. Oh my God. I love you. West coast represent.

Yay! So good. Do you have any nicknames? And if so, what are they? Roadkill. Oh, what? Okay. Yeah, I know we said we didn’t want an explanation, but now we need one. So please explain. So my last name is Lalgee and my friends used to just say, it sounds like something you’d find on the side of the road. Oh. And so then I was just like, okay.

And then they were like, “You’re roadkill now.” Done. I’m forever calling you roadkill. What song will always get you on the dance floor? Ooh. Anything from the spice girls because I’m English originally. Follow up question- favorite Spice Girls song? Tell me what you want. What you really, really want. Is that wannabe?

I don’t even know the name of it. Wannabe. I just know the words. Yeah what a fan? Don’t even know the name of the song? I just know all the words. Spice Girls super fan. Moving on. So you mentioned, originally from England where at? Blackpool England. So it’s an hour north of Liverpool where the Beatles are from. Amazing. I love it. What are your hobbies?

I love playing soccer and then I love hanging out with my kids. Oh, so good. Well follow up questionable favorite soccer team and tell us a little bit more about your kids. What are their names? Liverpool? No, that’s the name of my favorite soccer team. I’ve got it tattooed in my arm. I’m that diehard. Why do you clarify it’s not the name of your child?

My wife would hate me if I called my kid Liverpool. But no, I’ve got a son called Finn and then the daughter called Evie or Evelyn. So cute. So cute. They are cuties. They’re really cute. What’s their like go to movie right now? I know Tokarz used to watch

Enchanted and Frozen- Disney, Pixar, everything. Frozen and Tangled right now. And then bluey, if you guys have never seen bluey. I’ve heard of it, but there’s no reason for me to watch it quite yet, but maybe I’ll tune in. It’s fun. Okay. I have to learn what that is. Googling it up now. I know have to look that up for sure. Should we start the lightning round Em? Let’s do it. I think it’s time. All right. Let’s kick things off. Ice cream or sorbet? Ice cream. Instagram or Facebook? Not LinkedIn. Neither. No- Insta. Insta. Good, good. Good, good. Fries or tots? Fries. Pancakes or waffles? Waffles. Movies at home or in the theater? In the theater. Sweet or savory? Savory. Concert or sporting event?

Ooh, sporting event. Dogs or cats? Dogs. City or country? City. Pizza or burger? Pizza. Are you messy or tidy? Ooh. Ooh, tidy. Coffee or tea- from the Brit. Coffee. Oh, not a true Brit. Just kidding. Weekends or holidays? Holidays. Last question, early bird or night owl? Early bird. Oh, okay. Joel, you crushed it. What was there to be nervous about?

I don’t know. You’re made for this. It’s because you guys are great hosts and you made me feel very welcome and you know- I’ve have to be honest, I think you’ve set the gold standard. I’m going to like favorite this video and whenever someone’s like, what I do? I’m like come on. I’m like this is how you play rapid fire questions.

Like this is how it’s done. It is how it’s done. Precedents has been set. Way to go, Joel. Well, thank you. Those are great questions. Let’s it. Drop your mic, throw the mic. Just kidding. Throw the mic on the ground. It’s it looks like a nice mic. Don’t drop the mic. Yeah I’ll expense it. Matt probably doesn’t want you to expense that one.

Well we loved having you on. We’re so excited about your new role. Can’t wait to see you crushing it and we’ll see again soon. Please come back. I will! Thank you everybody. See you Joel. See you guys. Have a good one.
