Does your job feel repetitive? Do you feel like it’s making you dumber?
I have news: it is!
Wonderful study from American Academy of Neurology: “Those who held the least mentally demanding jobs had a 66% greater risk of mild cognitive impairment, and a 31% greater risk of dementia, after the age of 70 compared with those in the most mentally taxing roles.” Here.
I bring this up because I work in recruiting. Lots of you reading this do, too.
Recruiting can feel like Groundhog Day. Same thing. Over and over. No end in sight.
If you’ve followed my nonsense for any amount of time, you’re well aware how critical I am about the lack of innovation in our industry. Hiring has gone through the motions, repeating the same playbook, for decades.
It’s not like we’ve nailed it. Companies still struggle to differentiate themselves. Candidates still get ghosted. Recruiters are always fighting fires because everything is last minute reactive.
Point being: not only is the status quo ineffective, it will quite literally cause you to lose your mind.
Let’s all think about that before we repeat the same thing we did yesterday.

The 2025 job market has everyone scratching their heads. One minute, we’re seeing strong job numbers. The next? Layoffs. Some companies are scaling fast, others are stuck in hiring freezes. It’s a mixed bag—and it’s creating uncertainty across the board.
In this episode, Ryan & Emily break it all down:
🔹 The rise of temp-to-perm and extended interview processes
🔹 How hesitation is impacting hiring
🔹Advice for both employers and candidates navigating the confusion
“The market isn’t broken—it’s just cautious.”
That nuance is key. And how you respond to it—whether you’re hiring or job searching—makes all the difference.
