I have a love/hate relationship with technology. I love technology. I hate when it’s poorly utilized.
I’ll be clear: I don’t hate that LinkedIn is jumping aboard the AI bandwagon. It’s evitable. And this news should come as a surprise to absolutely no one. Their Microsoft overlords own the damn thing.
But I am pre-hating the upcoming poor execution of it.
The biggest issue with LinkedIn job ads, resumes, headlines (the initial focus on this) in the current state: they’re just sooooo boring. Broadly speaking.
Uncompelling. Bland. Uninspired.
The whole point of all these things is to stand out. Not go with the flow by creating a well articulated textbook.
And don’t take that as a criticism if your ads/resumes/headlines aren’t good. *Writing is a hard skill.* Literally why there’s a push for this stuff.
The issue with generative AI in the current state: it solves the time spent problem. But it doesn’t solve the quality problem.
This is where the value of it gets conflated in people’s minds.
It’s an A+, 10/10, 100% on Rotten Tomatoes summarizer. Perfect grammar. Checks all the boxes.
And it looks exactly like everything else.
I’m not saying generative AI copy will be forever be terrible.
👉I am saying we have a long road of bland, mass produced, robotic copy ahead of us before it gets good.
But if we could get it to filter DM spam instead of create DM spam…now we’re talking…
