Right on cue, the villain emerges: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce threatens to sue the FTC to keep noncompete agreements intact. CNBC story here.
The quote here is great. “Noncompete agreements are an important tool in fostering innovation and preserving competition.”
Noncompete literally means restricting competition. They said it preserves competition IN THE SAME DAMN SENTENCE.
Call me crazy but everything I know about the legal system is that language and definitions are kinda important.🤷
The disappointing part is that the Chamber of Commerce represents businesses. I’m a partner in a business. And I’m telling you: I want these things gone.
Why? Because they help crappy businesses. The ones who can’t retain employees in any other way.
Good companies should be able to gut bad companies of their best employees. There I said it.
The disappointing part: today I learned the Chamber of Commerce aligns themselves with the lowest common denominator of the business world.
