Welcome back to another episode of Recruiting Reality, the show where we pair up hot topics in the entertainment industry with some helpful recruiting tips. And one show that Liz and I can both agree on is such an awesome, awesome show, is Ted Lasso. It’s just such a good, warm, feeling, fuzzy show.
It’s just always going to make you laugh. It’s going to make you smile. It’s going to make you cry sometimes, but it’s such a good show. Yeah, you took the words right out of my mouth and I feel like there’s so many lessons in the show and of course there is the one quote that I think stuck out to both of us and it is the ultimate quote, the goldfish quote. I don’t know it by heart so bear with me as I look this way.
You know what the happiest animal on earth is? It’s a goldfish. It’s got a 10 second memory. That’s the quote. I think this is such a good life lesson and all the things but we’re going to talk about it specifically to recruiting because that’s what we do. So from the candidate perspective in the adversity of this crazy job market that we’ve been living in interviewing for all the roles talking to all the different recruiters.
And waiting to get that phone call, but maybe the phone call you’re getting is it’s not the right fit this time. Be a goldfish. Just know that there is something on the other side of it. Keep on going. You can grieve the role that you have and then just move on to the next.
So I think that for me is what we took from this is just keep on going in the face of this tough job market on the candidate side. What do you think on the other side? Yeah. So like on the recruiter side, especially as agency recruiters, and that’s what I’m going to focus on is we have good high highs, closing deals, getting roles for our candidates. And also low lows where just doesn’t seem to work for a couple weeks, a month and so on, especially in this job market, we’re feeling it just as much as the candidates are feeling it. And so it’s hard. And that’s one thing that like my direct manager, Matt Tokarz, he was like, you know, that’s, have you watched Ted Lasso? I was like, I haven’t
And he’s the one who got me to watch it. He was like, you need to remember this. Yeah. He’s like, you have remember it because I was new to the agency world and he was like, it’s going to be hard. And it’s like, you want to cherish these high moments, but you can’t stay stuck in them, but you also can’t stay stuck in the low ones either.
So just really understanding there’s going to be high highs. There’s going to be low lows in the job market on the candidate side, on the recruiter side. And you just need to be like a goldfish and have a quick memory. Exactly. Be a goldfish.
