Hirewell has evolved quite a bit in our 20+ years. Some of it has been planned. We launched our GTM, HR, RPO, and F&A Recruiting practices due to client demand. Our clients needed the help and we wanted to be a great partner.
Some growth has been more opportunistic. We’ve gotten lucky. Great people have wanted to build a new offering on the platform that we’ve built.
That’s how we got into Real Estate and Construction recruiting. 5 years ago, Jim, Tricia, and Janis didn’t like the situation they were in. They liked the brand we were building and asked if they could join. Fast forward to today – they are a team of 10. And they’ve helped hundreds of clients find top talent in the Real Estate and Construction industries.
Now we are launching a Cannabis recruiting practice. Was this on the 1, 3, or 5 year plan that I laid out at any point? Nope.
But when a longtime client that is a domain expert calls, we always listen. And that happened a few months ago. Scott Wells built out the TA function for one of the fastest growing Cannabis companies in the country. It is an industry that has grown a ton in the past 5-10 years. As it matures, we think there is even more opportunity. Scott took some time off after leaving his previous firm and decided he wanted to get back into the Search world. He valued our partnership and loved our ability to help companies scale.
Just like that – we’ve got our newest practice at Hirewell – Cannabis.
We’ve dabbled in the space for awhile – helping 5-6 clients with their talent needs. We think Scott’s domain knowledge + our delivery expertise = the next big thing at Hirewell
So, why should you hit us up for your cannabis hiring needs?
Simple—we get it. This industry is a wild ride, and every company is different in its own way. We’re all about navigating those unique challenges with you.
Whether you need someone to run your ops, crush your go-to-market plan, or handle the corporate stuff, we’ve got the talent to help you grow (See what I did there?).
One other thing. My 81 year old mother is an avid reader of Hirewell content. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned about sure how she’d respond to our latest business offering. I’m a child of the 80’s and Nancy Reagan’s “Just say no to drugs” campaign found a way into my subconscious.
A week after Scott came on board, my mom came over wearing a tee-shirt from a dispensary down the street from her house. Is she a customer, or did she just get a random freebie? Who knows. I was afraid to ask. But it was just the sign I needed that she’d be cool with what’s happening at Hirewell.

Repeat after me: do not talk politics at work. Or on LinkedIn.
Or in job interviews. Or on first dates. Or at Thanksgiving dinner.
Unfortunately for those of us in the business world, 2025 ruined it. There’s just no way around the fact that tariffs are the issue driving the business climate right now. Every client, candidate, and partner is asking about it—or struggling because of it.
So maybe, just maybe, talking policy isn’t just okay—it’s necessary. Dare I say, productive.
So get ready for a little nuance from Jeff Smith and James Hornick in The 10 Minute Talent Rant, Episode 107, “Talk Policy, Not Politics”
